A little taste of Romania in Social Studies

S1,2 and 3 were lucky enough to be visited today by Marta Voicu from Romania. Marta is working at IBM whilst she visits Scotland for a while.

Marta told us about what it's like to grow up in Romania, explaining the change from communism to capitalism. She also told us some of the things Romanians have invented- including fountain pens, jet planes, insulin and Dracula!!!

Conflict and peace: Challenge Based Learning in S3 history

Following on from some of the research we've been doing on challenge based learning, S3 historians began their next topic this morning in a very different way!

We have started the topic on International relations. We are using the big theme of conflict and peace as our focus for examining the years 1890 - 1930.

After some input on the kinds of questions there are, including open ended and specific, the groups got to work asking questions about conflict and peace. It's been a very interesting lesson!

By the end of the lesson, each group had come up with three focus questions. From these, they will then choose one, which will be their guiding question for their investigation.

Their homework is to come up with some ideas for the final outcome, using their experiences in CBL in Computing to help. Watch this space!

Pace and racing on the Esplanade in Core PE

We took advantage of the clear day and mild temperature and did PE outside today!

We started with a gentle warm up...

Then some team races...

Then some longer races... In the final, John came first, Ailie second and Euan third.

And a rest!

Here's the view we enjoyed all afternoon...
